Woman trapped in lift for nearly an hour in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A 63-year-old woman was trapped in a lift on the fifth floor of a condominium at Batu 4 here on Monday night.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the station received an emergency call through the NG MERS999 line at 8.04pm and dispatched six personnel to the location, arriving six minutes later.

He said firefighters found the woman trapped in the lift, believed to have been affected by a power supply disruption, with witnesses saying she had been trapped since about 7.07pm.

The building’s lift maintenance personnel managed to open the lift door at 8.14pm, finding the woman weak, lying inside and semi-conscious, before she was handed over to Health Ministry personnel and taken to Duchess of Sandakan Hospital for further treatment.

Jimmy said the operation ended at 8.35pm after firefighters ensured the location was safe and posed no further danger, while two police personnel were also at the scene.
