Jhajjar district is witnessing a growing presence of women in governance and law enforcement, with several key positions from policing to civil administration currently being held by women officers.
Jhajjar Commissioner of Police Dr Rajshri Singh is leading the police force, while Deputy Commissioner Varsha Khangwal is heading the district administration. The district has also witnessed a strong presence of women officers in several other key administrative roles.
Among them, Dharna Yadav and Deepti Garg are serving as Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), while Ritu Bansiwal and Renuka Nandal are posted as City Magistrate and SDM, Beri, respectively.
In addition, Nisha Tanwar is serving as District Development and Panchayat Officer, Shweta Sharma as District Welfare Officer, Anju as District Town Planner, Dr Manju Kadian as Civil Surgeon and Renu Bala as District Social Welfare Officer.
The prominent presence of women officers has drawn appreciation from women outfits as well as officials, who see it as a positive sign for women empowerment. Even, women citizens feel more comfortable approaching female officers with their concerns.
“It is a reflection of the government’s approach on gender issues and administrative policy. It shows the willingness of the government to post officers on merit, without gender bias. When women serve in meaningful positions, it inspires society and encourages other women to play a meaningful role in public life,” comments DC Varsha Khangwal.
Dr Rajshri Singh, Commissioner of Police, described the appointments as a strong example of women’s empowerment and equal opportunity in governance.
“Today, women are working shoulder to shoulder with men in every field. In the bureaucracy as well, both male and female officers undergo the same administrative and physical training, so gender makes no difference to their capabilities. Jhajjar, however, has truly set an example of women’s empowerment, with women officers serving in several important positions across the district,” she added.
The Commissioner further maintained that the deployment of women officers in important administrative roles highlights the government’s commitment to the ideals of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign and growing participation of females in public administration.
Dr Jagmati Sangwan, vice-president of the All India Democratic Women Association, welcomed the appointments, calling them a positive step for citizens, especially women.
“Women officers are often known for better communication and stronger connection with the community. Their presence in important administrative positions will encourage more women to come forward and seek help without hesitation,” she said.
Dr Jagmati added, “Women officers can better understand issues faced by women and help resolve them more effectively and sensitively.”
“Our delegation will soon meet these officers to apprise them of issues concerning women in the district,” said Dr Jagmati, a Bheem Awardee.
