In a gesture to provide relief to commuters and residents during intense summer heat, the Civil Lines police of Karnal district organised a “chhabil” outside the police station on Wednesday.
Police officials and personnel distributed sweetened cold water to passersby, motorists, labourers and pedestrians battling the scorching heat. The initiative received an overwhelming response from the public, with many appreciating the humanitarian effort of the Police Department.
The police officers also participated in the service activity and interacted with citizens.
Ramlal, SHO, Civil Lines, said the purpose of organising the chhabil was not only to help people cope with the rising temperatures but also to strengthen the bond between the police and the public. He appealed to the citizens to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary travel during peak afternoon hours and take precautions to protect themselves from heat.
During the programme, the police also conveyed a message to commuters not to use black film on their vehicles. Residents praised the initiative and said such social service activities helped create a positive image of the police among the public.
