LABUAN: Outspoken Datuk Wong Kii Yii has been sworn in as Chairman of the Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce (LCCC) for the fourth consecutive term.
The 37th elections of LCCC officer-bearers were held in 2021 but the swearing-in was delayed for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ceremony held during a gala dinner was witnessed by Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) President Tan Sri Liew Sui Fatt.
In his speech, Wong applauded Liew for successfully resurrecting the Wisma Tiong Hua building project in Kota Kinabalu despite challenges and when hopes for the building seemed lost.
He said Liew’s efforts deserved praise because when the building is completed, it would not only raise the profile of all the Chinese chambers but also benefit them.
Among those present at the swearing-in were Indonesia Consulate-General Rafail Waklangitan, Senator Datuk Bashir Alias, Labuan Port Authority Chairman Datuk Kamalanathan and other SUCCC leaders.
The new LCCC office-bearers are Arthur Kong Ting Fong (deputy chairman), Robert Seah Kiat Chong (first vice chairman), Josef Wong Ming Chong (third vice chairman), Eric Wong Siew Yee (fourth vice chairman), Yew Thuan Kong (treasurer) and Calvin Hii Lu Hin (secretary-general). The full committee has 19 members.
