KOTA BELUD: Nor Farah Mazlan, 24, from Kampung Taun Gusi who made a name for Malaysia at the recent World Silat Championship in Melaka aims to do better in future.

The third among seven siblings said she had to rest for more than one year after suffering an injury during training in 2018 followed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“After recovering, I had intensive training for two months under teacher Mazlan Shaari, teacher Hamidah Mulok and new coach teacher Ahmad Wardi Salim at Bukit Jalil before moving to Nilai, Negeri Sembilan,” said Nor Farah who defeated Singapore’s Nadhrah Shahrin 25-23 to win in the Puteri Class F category.

Nor Farah said her focus after this will be the World Beach Silat Championship in the Philippines followed by the SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia.

Meanwhile, Nor’s teammate, Mohammad Amiruddin, 35, from Kampung Menunggui had to be satisfied with a Bronze in the Men’s Class H category after losing to Vietnam’s Nguyen Duy Tuyen 56-12 in the semi-finals.

Not disheartened, Mohammad also aims to improve himself for future competitions.

“I know I have to improve myself in certain techniques, like catching, bringing down the opponent, and kicking.

“I know this takes time but I will try my best,” he added.

He said he also wanted to taste Gold and will do his best at the World Beach and SEA Games events.
