Soccer fans continue to be surprised by the American culture during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Over the last month or so, the US has seen thousands of soccer fans enter the country because of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
While there have been a plethora of stories about fans enjoying the American culture, there have been an equal number of instances where the US culture has left fans shocked.
World Cup fans have been refusing the mandatory tip culture
Staying in America for the World Cup has obviously led to soccer fans discovering one of the most debated cultural practices in the country: Mandatory tips at restaurants.
According to Coinvo on X, the tourists have been shocked by this and have refused to partake in this practice.
“Foreigners in the US for the World Cup have refused mandatory tips at bars and restaurants,” the X handle revealed.
In most countries outside the US, tipping is often optional, and customers only leave it when they are satisfied with the service.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case in America, where workers apparently make the majority of their money in restaurants through tips.
Soccer fans call out America’s terrible tipping culture
As expected, the news went viral and a plethora of fans, including Americans, shared their two cents on foreigners refusing to bow down to the rigid tipping culture.
“As an American, I stand with the foreigners,” a fan wrote. While another added, “Pay your workers, not guilt-trip your customers.”
“A tip is appreciation, not payroll,” a third fan pointed out. Another fan stated, “I don’t understand the concept of paying for your meal and still paying extra.”
“Let’s say they pay waiters and bartenders a fair wage. What is the incentive for giving great service then?” a presumed American fan defended the culture.
All things considered, this has turned out to be a major off-field debate during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Right now, even foreigners seem divided over arguing or simply giving in to the mandatory tips.
