Scottie Scheffler has been nowhere near his best this season, but he still has a win and two top-5 finishes to his name.

Scheffler won his first event of the 2026 PGA Tour season at the American Express, before finishing third in Phoenix and T-4 at Pebble Beach.

However, the 29-year-old world number one’s problems had already begun.

Scheffler really struggled during his opening rounds and was faced with numerous battles just to make the cut.

In fact, it has been suggested that Scheffler’s swing looks ‘unrecognizable on the PGA Tour this season.

However, the Dallas native is still yet to finish outside the top-25 in a PGA Tour event since August 2024 and has made an astonishing 70 cuts in a row.

Who better to ask about the current state of Scheffler’s game than the world’s number one swing coach, Mark Blackburn.

What PGA Tour players have been saying about Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler has just withdrawn from the Houston Open, so he would have had four weeks off by the time he plays The Masters.

However, he’s still the favorite to win at Augusta National, and for very good reason.

The world’s number one golf coach, Mark Blackburn, has been speaking about Scheffler’s swing, when speaking on the Dan on Golf Show.

Blackburn coaches some huge names in the game, including the likes of Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick.

He was asked by Dan Rapaport what makes Scottie Scheffler so special and he provided a seriously in-depth answer to the question.

I think Scottie does some things that are incredible, Blackburn said.

If you take a look, one of the things most people don’t appreciate, if you look at the stature of Scottie Scheffler, he is a big man, he’s got a big wingspan, he’s got a massive arc.

So he generates a lot of speed without having to do a whole lot.

You know, it’s not like it’s trying to absolutely smash it, it really doesn’t appear that way.

He’s got that sort of little cut shot he hits, and then he’s also got a smash go-to, but he’s very straight, he’s athletic, he’s got a big arc.

You notice his ground forces, because they’re kind of his feet moving around, but there’s some genius to that that I think works well.

He obviously has quite a lot of shift down the target line, but marries that really well with kind of how his club moves a little bit left. And to me, he’s got his own golf swing, but it works really, really well.

There’s a lot of pieces that make a lot of sense, that are really smart. If you want to send the ball a long way, you want to be able to hit it high. He’s got a very good action for doing that. But he also has the ability that he can turn around and hit a lot of off-speed shots.

Some of the shots I’ve seen him hit are just incredible, and the players I coach, that played with him have said to me, ‘I can’t believe he hit that shot, that shot was just unbelievable’.

So he’s a shot-maker as well. The technique might look a little bit unconventional by traditional standards, but it’s actually got a lot of really cool pieces in it.

Why Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer in the world

Blackburn went on to discuss other traits that Scheffler possesses which make him the best golfer on the planet.

I think he’s probably the best golfer in terms of how he plays the game, Blackburn said.

He’s ultra competitive. He wants to win, and I think he’s just the epitome of getting the ball in the hole.

Hit it, go find it, and go play golf, and then you throw in Kenyon, the little putting genius, my pal.

Unfortunately, he’s taught him how to putt, so now you’ve got a real problem. You got someone who can hit it well and he can putt.

Scheffler is obviously going through a rough patch by his standards right now, but as mentioned earlier, he still hasn’t finished outside the top 25 on the PGA Tour this season.

He has one win and two top-four finishes to his name in six events this year, and there is no doubt in my mind that he will go on to win many more times over the course of the next five or six months.
