Wrexham star calls for Hollywood-owned club to replace Southampton in Championship play-offs

  • Southampton have been expelled from the Championship play-offs and will incur a four-point deduction for next season after admitting to spying on rival clubs.
  • An independent commission found Southampton guilty of three spying offences, including against play-off semi-final opponents Middlesbrough, and observing training sessions at Oxford and Ipswich.
  • The club is appealing the sanctions, with a league arbitration panel convened to hear their case, which could either uphold the original decision or reinstate Southampton.
  • Pending the outcome of this appeal, Middlesbrough, who had previously called for Southampton’s expulsion, have been reinstated and are scheduled to play Hull City in the play-off final.
  • Wrexham forward Josh Windass, whose team finished just outside the top six, has called for a complete restart of the play-offs, suggesting his club, which is owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, should take Southampton’s place.
