Kota Kinabalu: The 7th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race 2022 will see participation by the WSG Group.

The race recorded the highest participation in history with a total of 133 teams.

The team is led by her children Vanessa Wong, Melissa Wong and Jonathan Wong.

FCAS Deputy President Datuk Susan wong, who is also organising chairperson, said the FCAS International Dragon Boat Race has become a universal sport that is popular among all ethnic groups.

She said the programme is a platform not only to promote Chinese culture and celebrate Duan Wu Festival, but also to unite people from different backgrounds to enhance racial harmony in Sabah.

She was heartened to see the growing popularity of dragon boat race among Chinese youths, as evident in their participation in the event.

“They are the seeds who will carry forward our cultural heritage. The rowing of dragon boats and eating of zong zi (glutinous rice dumpling) are a way of keeping this folk custom, which has been observed for thousands of years, alive,” she said here.

Susan also welcomed participants from Malaysia and other countries, including Philippines, Brunei, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Lawas, Tawau and Sandakan, to Kota Kinabalu the Nature Resort City in the Land Below the Wind.

Meanwhile, Susan said some 500 participants have signed up for the inaugural sunset run on July 2, which is organised by FCAS Youth Committee in conjunction with the dragon boat race. The seven-kilometre run starts from Likas Bay heading towards Kota Kinabalu city.
