WSG land donation boosts Benoni power supply

PAPAR: Property developer of Parklane City and Benoni Commercial Centre here, WSG Group has donated more than an acre of land to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SE) for the construction of the Benoni 33/11kV Main Distribution Substation (PPU), helping to strengthen electricity supply in Benoni and surrounding areas following rapid development in the district.

WSG Group Managing Director Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said she provided the land site for the Benoni PPU after SE officials informed her five years ago that existing electricity supply capacity was insufficient to support her large-scale development, particularly more than 1,000 condominium units and shoplots projects in Parklane City, Benoni.

“When SE Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir Ts Mohd Yaakob Jaafar came and informed me that SE needed land to build a PPU in this area, we provided several sites, which were subsequently surveyed before this site was selected.

“Today, I am very happy that the RM28.82 million PPU Benoni 33/11kV project has finally been officially commissioned and is operational to support electricity supply needs in the area,” she said.

Susan said this to reporters after the official launching of the PPU Benoni 33/11kV, officiated by Papar Member of Parliament Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, here.

She said although the site was located within WSG’s development land area, the facility would ultimately benefit the wider Papar community by providing stable electricity supply capacity to support population growth and economic activities.

Susan said the process of subdividing the land title for the PPU site was still being handled by the Land Office, adding that the company hoped the title could be transferred to SE soon.

Meanwhile, she said the Benoni PPU substation was crucial to ensuring that the development of Parklane City, particularly the condominium project, could be completed according to schedule.

Speaking about WSG’s latest development in Parklane City Benoni, Susan said Tower A was now almost fully sold, with WSG targeting to obtain the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) in June next year.

“Once the CCC is obtained, the electricity supply from this Benoni PPU will enable residents to move into the condominium, after which we will proceed with the development of Towers B, C and D in stages,” she said.

On the development of North Borneo University (NBU) in Parklane City, she said the project was also progressing smoothly and had now entered the piling installation stage.

“The NBU project is targeted for completion and handover to the university in December next year,” she said.

She said the university was expected to accommodate at least 2,000 students when it begins operations in January 2028.

“The university needs student accommodation within walking distance, as well as easy access to shopping areas and recreational facilities.

“All these are available within our development, including badminton and pickleball courts, as well as commercial facilities,” she said.

Susan said WSG also saw potential to complement the development with healthcare facilities following a proposal to build a hospital in the area.

If realised, she said the presence of a university, hospital, residential areas and commercial centres would create an integrated development ecosystem that would benefit not only Parklane residents but also the wider Papar community.

“We want this area (Benoni) to become a complete development that provides education, healthcare, residential and commercial facilities for the community,” she said.

In a related development, Susan said she would also donate a piece of land near 10Star Cinema at Parklane City to build a surau.

She said Armizan would look for funds to build the surau to facilitate Muslims, especially those living and working within the development.

The RM28.82 million substation represents a significant investment in electricity infrastructure for the area and is expected to provide greater capacity to meet the needs of Benoni’s growing population and economic activities.

Susan said WSG was pleased to have been able to contribute the land needed for the project, as the facility would ultimately serve a wider purpose beyond the company’s own development.

She said the company would continue working with the relevant authorities and agencies to support infrastructure development and ensure the smooth progress of its projects in Parklane City.

The development of Parklane City, she said, was envisioned not merely as a residential project but as a comprehensive development incorporating education, healthcare, commercial activities, recreation and community facilities.

“We want this area (Benoni) to become a complete development that provides education, healthcare, residential and commercial facilities for the community,” she said.
