Xiaomi Malaysia has finally made the Xiaomi 17 series official over here, and although this isn’t “technically” the complete lineup, we still have the base Xiaomi 17, the cream of the crop Xiaomi 17 Ultra, as well as the presence of the completely unique Leica Leitzphone model (Not really part of the 17 family though).
So the base model Xiaomi 17 is fairly minimalistic yet clean, as the clean and rounded shape with smooth edges keeps the near-borderless display level against the bezel for an extra-large screen estate feel.
It’s also neat for users with small hands like me, thanks to the 8.06mm thinness and 191g weight, and the internals are pretty powerful too.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is given a bigger screen, the same thinness, but the big camera at the back is what makes it unique, as Xiaomi packs the brand’s first use of the LOFIC main camera sensor, the Light Fusion 1050L, together with Leica 200MP 75-100mm telephoto camera featuring mechanical optical zoom and built to Leica APO optical standards, maintaining sharpness with minimal ghosting or color fringing across the zoom range.
Thanks to advanced sensor tech, it can even extend to a 400mm equivalent focal length. Video is just as serious, with support for Dolby Vision or ACES Log recording at up to 4K 120fps on both main and telephoto cameras.
Need more “camera toys” to play with? Then the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit is now lighter and more compact, featuring a wrist strap, customizable two-stage shutter, dedicated video button, and IP54 protection.
The Photography Kit Pro goes further with a slip-resistant PU leather grip inspired by classic Leica bodies, a built-in 2000mAh battery, a detachable shutter button, and a dedicated Fastshot UI for more tactile, camera-like control.
Then there’s the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, launched in celebration of Leica’s 100-year anniversary, featuring a nickel-anodized aluminum alloy body with custom engraving and a textured etch on the side.
The metal ring surrounding the back camera module is inspired by the Leica Camera Ring and provides real tactility when being rotated. You can even customize it to toggle or trigger certain actions.
One can also find the Leica Essential mode, recreating the look and feel of iconic Leica cameras such as the Leica M9 and Leica M3 with MONOPAN 50 film styling.
