Japanese street-food culture gets a Malaysian interpretation with the opening of YAKIGO at Ombak KLCC, where freshly flame-grilled yakitori is served alongside flavours adapted to local tastes.
Located at Lot C1, Urban Eats Concourse Floor, YAKIGO takes inspiration from the casual atmosphere of Japanese street-food stalls. Its menu centres on skewers that are flame-grilled fresh in small batches throughout the day, alongside a selection of full meals.
The concept is built around making yakitori more accessible to Malaysian diners, with the menu combining Japanese grilling techniques with flavours developed with local preferences in mind. YAKIGO uses halal-compliant ingredients and suppliers, while its central kitchen is halal-certified.
The result is a casual interpretation of yakitori that retains the appeal of freshly grilled skewers while adapting the format and flavours for the Malaysian market.
“As a fan of Japanese yakitori myself, getting a good plate of freshly grilled skewers is always a must whenever I’m in Japan. We wanted to bring that same excitement to Malaysia, while giving it a local touch through flavours that Malaysians know and love,” said Matthews Chang, Strategy Officer of YAKIGO.
The Ombak KLCC opening follows YAKIGO’s first outlet at KIPMall Kota Warisan and its presence at Taylor’s University. The brand is also continuing its expansion, with an outlet at Coalfields Retail Park scheduled to open on 10 September 2026, followed by a location at Seremban R&R in early October.
The new outlet brings Japanese-style yakitori into the Urban Eats concourse at Ombak KLCC, offering freshly grilled skewers and full meals in a format suited to casual dining. Its menu combines the familiar preparation of yakitori with flavours tailored to Malaysian tastes, while its halal-certified central kitchen supports the brand’s wider rollout across the country.
