The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), has intensified drain cleaning operations across the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri ahead of the monsoon season.
The civic body has issued a schedule for cleaning drains in all 22 wards under the MCYJ. This time, the agency carrying out the work would be paid according to the weight of the silt removed from the drains.
Mayor Suman Bahamani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad inspected the cleaning of several drains, including the stretch from Prakash Chowk to Gori Shankar Temple in the Jagadhri zone. During the inspection, they reviewed the cleaning mechanism, silt removal process and water drainage situation in the major drains of Jagadhri. Officials were also directed to remove encroachments from drains.
Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad, accompanied by Municipal Councillor Vibhor Pahuja, MCYJ officials and representatives of the agency, also inspected drain cleaning work in Sector 17, Jagadhri, and Professor Colony in Yamunanagar.
During the visit, Councillor Vibhor Pahuja informed the commissioner about recurring waterlogging problems in Professor Colony during the rainy season.
The Municipal Commissioner said drain cleaning work was being carried out at a rapid pace. He added that the Railways was also laying stormwater lines beneath the Chandpur Bypass.
“The installation of stormwater lines will eliminate the waterlogging problem in several colonies, including Professor Colony, Model Town, Shakti Nagar, Tagore Garden, Lajpat Nagar and Hari Nagar,” Parsad said.
He directed MCYJ officials to ensure thorough cleaning of all major and minor drains before the onset of the monsoon.
“Negligence in drain cleaning will not be tolerated. It must be ensured that drain cleaning work in all three zones is completed before the monsoon season,” he said.
The commissioner also instructed officials to complete the work at the earliest and ensure drains were cleaned to their full depth.
“The waste and silt removed after cleaning should be lifted immediately. Negligence in this work will not be tolerated,” he added.
