Kota Kinabalu: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate Yee Tsai Yiew hopes to follow in the footsteps of her dad Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, a three-term Member of Parliament. The 32-year-old lawyer believes she had fighting chance in the five-cornered fight for the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat.
“All of us just do our best and the rakyat I believe they will know who to vote for,” she said. Yee is up against incumbent KK MP Chan Foong Hin from Pakatan Harapan, Yeo Yan Yin @ Amanda (Warisan), Datuk Winston Liaw Kit Siong (Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat) and Marcel Jude Joseph (Independent).
She said it would be fantastic to have a woman MP for Kota Kinabalu.
“If that happens and we just hope for the best because, you know, everything has to be balanced. Not just female or male even senior and junior as well, yeah we have to have a balance of everything, this is yin and yang,” she said.
Yee urged young voters to come out and exercise their rights in this election.
Amanda hopes to make a difference by bringing young vibes and professionalism, besides also aiming to be the woman member of parliament.
“For me, I think I can bring young vibes, I can bring professionalism, these are the two main things and because I am also really advocate in public policy so I believe this can make KK a different city,” she said.
On what she sees as lacking in the State Capital, Yeo said: “Basically it is in terms of the accessibility like in KK, the traffic jam. So let’s say if we can have a more punctual public schedule … then I think this is workable.
“Also another thing we need to think of is the cost of living perspective because for KK, the cost of living is quite high compared to KL. If we can lower down the cost of living in terms of food, it will be quite helpful for KK residents. The 29-year-old public policy researcher was also unperturbed that she is the youngest candidate for the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat.
“I think that it like a good opportunity for the young candidate to stand out because Sabahan needs more young parliamentarians,” she said.
On her manifesto, Yeo said it around “re-emerging KK to reset Sabah.”
