Chelsea's incoming arrival Mateo Kovacic has given incoming boss Frank Lampard is first headache.

The Blues completing the signing of Kovacic from Real Madrid, with the player having spent the past season on loan at the Stamford Bridge club.

But given Kovacic is not homegrown, it means one foreign player from the Blues first team squad will have to be left out of their 25-man Champions League squad.

Chelsea have very few players that fulfill their homegrown quota, with Gary Cahill having departed.

It means they could go with a smaller than 25 man squad for the Champions League to get around the rule, as they do not have the homegrown players to register a full 25-man squad.

Teams must have eight homegrown players in the 25, out of which five must be from their youth system.
