As part of International Day of Yoga celebrations, a yoga awareness run was organised in Karnal on Monday under the theme of “Yoga-Yukt, Nasha –Mukt Haryana”. The awareness run commenced from NDRI Chowk and concluded at Gita Dwar.

The run was flagged off by Rajesh Soni, SDM, Gharaunda, in the presence of officials from the district administration and the Ayush Department. A large number of youths, students, women, senior citizens and representatives of various social organisations enthusiastically participated in the event. Participants carried placards displaying messages promoting yoga and encouraging people to stay away from drugs.

Addressing the media, SDM Soni said yoga was not merely a form of exercise but a way of leading a healthy and balanced life. He emphasised that if the younger generation adopted yoga as a part of their daily routine, the dream of creating a drug-free society could be achieved more easily.

Soni said the objective of the campaign was not only to spread awareness about health and wellness but also to motivate young people to stay away from social evils like drug addiction. The SDM said a district-level celebration of the International Day of Yoga would be organised at the New Grain Market in Karnal on June 21. “The programme will be held from 6 am to 8 am, during which the live address of PM Narendra Modi would also be broadcasted.

District Ayurvedic Officer Dr Satpal said participants securing top positions in the marathon were honoured with certificates of appreciation. In the men’s category, Lokesh secured the first position, followed by Rohan in second and Vansh in third place. In the women’s category, Manvi stood first, while Deepika and Nancy secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Satpal added that under the campaign, a three-day yoga protocol training programme would be organised jointly by the district administration and the Ayush Department from June 16 to June 18. The training sessions will be held daily from 6 to 7.30 am at the yoga shed in Fountain Park, Sector-12, Karnal.
