KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee (pic) has urged the government to cancel Malaysia Day fireworks in solidarity with flood victims across the State.
He said it would be insensitive for Kota Kinabalu residents, particularly those still reeling from Saturday’s floods, to endure the sound of fireworks while leaders celebrated.
Yong added that funds saved from the cancellation should instead be directed to assist affected families, noting that recent celebrations, including the New Year countdown, had already cost millions of ringgit.
