SHAH ALAM - The youth are getting less interested in pursuing their studies in higher education institutions due to the low salary offered compared to the years spent studying.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq said these youth, on the other hand, were more open to working right after completing their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) rather than continuing their studies after that.

"This is the issue among the youth, based on research done that suggests that two-thirds of youth after SPM choose to become influencers without wanting to further their education.

"I can't blame them. Based on what they said, the salary offered to them was far lower and not able to justify the number of years spent on studying, which could go up to four years.

"Try asking legal graduates working in Terengganu law firms; their basic salary is RM1,500. How to justify this wage after spending years to gain a law degree, but someone who works at Uniqlo could easily earn up to RM2,500 without even pursuing their higher education?" he asked in the Student Dialogue session with Syed Saddiq at the Karangkraf Complex on Thursday.
