KUALA LUMPUR — The Youth and Sports Ministry has set itself the goal of positioning Malaysia as a prominent destination for world-class sports events, one in particular is the Electronic Sports League (ESL) One.
Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim expressed this ambition, underscoring its connection to the broader objective of establishing the country as the central hub for e-sports in Southeast Asia.
“We hope that through these endeavours, we can boost the continuous and sustainable growth of the e-sports industry in Malaysia,” he said after an ESL One walkabout session here today.
The ongoing ESL One tournament features 12 of the world’s finest DOTA teams who will be vying for one of the six spots in the ESL One Play-Offs and a chance to win US$1 million (RM4.6 million) in cash prizes.
Now in its fourth year, the international tournament began on December 11 and runs until Sunday. — December 15, 2023
