KBS offers assistance to Lee Zii Jia after early season end due to ankle and back injuries, ensuring his recovery for 2026 tournaments

KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry stands ready to assist national men’s singles professional shuttler Lee Zii Jia following his decision to end the 2025 season early.

Minister Hannah Yeoh confirmed the ministry’s readiness to provide support for the injured athlete.

She emphasised openness to collaboration to ensure the Kedah-born player returns to competition in improved condition.

“The National Sports Institute is always ready to assist Zii Jia if he requires any help,” Yeoh told reporters after Skechers’ sponsorship announcement for national athletes.

“He can contact ISN Chief Executive Dr P. Vellapandian at any time and we will provide support.”

The 27-year-old player announced yesterday he would focus on recovery and preparation for next year’s competitions.

Yeoh acknowledged the severity of the ankle and back injuries that forced him to miss scheduled tournaments.

“It is very important for him to come back refreshed for next year,” she said.

“We know the badminton calendar is very packed, and if players get injured, going through tough periods without proper recovery can lead to fatigue in the long run.”

The minister expressed hope that Zii Jia would use the break to find peace and return with renewed focus.

His early season conclusion aims to ensure proper rehabilitation ahead of the 2026 tournament schedule. – Bernama
