Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday said India’s rich scientific heritage and technological capabilities can play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology and climate innovation. He also underlined the need for scientific institutions and urban planners to work together to address growing environmental and urban challenges.

Addressing the valedictory session of the ‘National Technology Day’ celebrations organised at the University of Delhi, Sandhu said, “India’s scientific tradition, from mathematics and astronomy to medicine, has always possessed knowledge systems much older than modern institutions. Advancing technology in modern India is not merely a challenge, but also a major opportunity for institutions and society.”

Urging the younger generation to take leadership in innovation-driven sectors, he said, “Your generation can decide how India moves forward in AI, biotechnology, clean energy, chemicals, climate and innovation.”

The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the environmental and infrastructural challenges being faced by cities worldwide. He said, “Pollution, water stress and several other challenges are rapidly transforming the future of cities globally. In such a scenario, scientific institutions and urban planners must work together to promote climate-smart processes and green infrastructure.”

The closing session of the programme was chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh. Managing Director of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council Jitendra Kumar and National Co-Organisation Secretary of Vijnana Bharati Praveen Ramdas attended the event as guests of honour and addressed the gathering.
