FILIPINO gymnasts Carlos Yulo and Karl Eldrew Yulo are set for a medal hunt in two events as they advance to multiple apparatus finals in the 2026 Asian Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zunyi, China.
In a strong showing, both Yulo brothers secured spots in the men’s floor exercise and horizontal bar finals, marking a significant milestone as they compete together in a major international tournament for the first time.
They will face a stacked field in the horizontal bar, including Japan’s Maeda Fusuke and Miwa Teppei, Kazakhstan’s Toishybek Diyas, Taiwan’s Tang Chia-hung and China’s Zhang Boheng, the reigning men’s individual all-around champion.
Eldrew placed seventh in the qualifiers with a score of 13.633, narrowly ahead of Carlos, who finished eighth with 13.466. Maeda led the field with a commanding 14.900.
Carlos will also contend in the parallel bars final, where he qualified fourth with a score of 13.966.
Awaiting him in that event are top contenders Zhang, Liu Yang of China, Taiwan’s Hung Yuan-hsi, South Korea’s Ryu Sung-hyun, and Japan’s Teppei and Tsuyoshi Hasegawa, along with North Korea’s Pak Song-hyok. Liu topped the qualifiers with 14.533.
Both finals — the horizontal bars and parallel bars — are scheduled for Sunday, the final day of competition, where the Yulo brothers will aim to convert their qualifications into podium finishes and further elevate Philippine gymnastics on the continental stage.
