KUALA SELANGOR – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi gives the impression that the Unity Government in Selangor will be defended as it is projected to win more state seats in the upcoming polls.
Zahid said the help and cooperation from BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) will help the state government remain and continue its administration.
"I expect not just to defend the seat but to be able to exceed (the number of seats won) compared to the previous seats won when the Selangor government was formed (in the 14th General Election)," he said during a walkabout at Pasar Malam Pekan Ijok here on Sunday.
He said all BN candidates are also expected to contribute to the restructuring of the Selangor state government for the next five years.
"We hand over the power (of voting) to the people, and we do not disobey the law of Allah.
"I advise the existing supporters not to listen to slander or make unreasonable comparisons of issues; instead, what is important is that the stability in the state of Selangor remains so that Selangor will be a pioneer as an industrial state with the latest technology," he said.
Zahid said if the desire to make Selangor a developed state can be realised, it will indirectly open job opportunities for the people in the state and throughout the country.
Before the state assembly was dissolved, PH had won 40 seats (PKR-19, DAP-15, Amanah-six), BN (five), Bersatu (four), and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) (two), while Pas, Pejuang, and Warisan had one seat each and one independent representative.
While the Batang Kali seat was declared vacant after its representatives did not attend the State Assembly (DUN) meeting for more than six months.
On former BN secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa's statement asking Umno members and supporters in the six election states to support Perikatan Nasional (PN) to save Umno, Ahmad Zahid described the leader as 'gila talak', loosely translated as crazy for divorce.
"He (Annuar) is crazy about divorce (gila talak)," he answered simply.
