KUALA LUMPUR - Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will meet Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim to seek clarification over the latter’s claim that he was forced to sign an Instrument of Proclamation to remove the state’s ruler.

Zahid said the meeting would take place during the ongoing Umno General Assembly 2026, which runs until Saturday.

"I am unclear about the matter because I was not present at the event or when the document was signed.

"We will certainly meet me during the assembly and he has to provide an explanation. I will ask him about the circumstances behind his statement...I will definitely make time to meet him,” he told a press conference after launching the book 13 Propaganda Perang Sun Tzu in conjunction with the assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here today.

Yesterday, Ismail clarified that he signed the Instrument of Proclamation against his will and under duress and that the document was therefore invalid, unconstitutional and unenforceable.

He said he had also lodged a police report to allow the authorities to investigate the matter.

Media reports stated that Ismail signed an Instrument of Proclamation related to Article 10 of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 on Aug 3, a day after taking his oath of office.

The document purportedly bearing his signature was highlighted at a press conference on Tuesday. - BERNAMA
