Kota Kinabalu: Zara Qairina Mahathir’s mother, Noraidah Lamat, has lodged a police report against several Facebook account holders over alleged defamatory statements linked to her daughter’s death.

Noraidah, accompanied by her legal counsel Shahlan Jufri and Datuk Rizwandean M. Borham, lodged the report at Karamusing police station on Thursday evening.

Her legal team, in a statement, said they had taken note of various posts and comments circulating on social media that contain defamatory accusations, harassment and insults directed at Noraidah and her family.

They stressed that the allegations were “untrue, baseless and constitute serious defamation” that has affected Noraidah’s reputation as well as the emotional wellbeing of her family.

The team further warned that any comments or speculation that go beyond acceptable limits are inappropriate, potentially sub judice in nature and could interfere with the administration of justice.

“We view seriously any dissemination, repetition or publication of such defamatory statements. Any party who continues to make or spread unsubstantiated allegations will face legal action without further notice,” they stated.

Meanwhile, the next inquest proceedings into Zara’s death have been scheduled to take place from April 13 to 17 at the Coroner’s Court.

Other counsel were Mohd Syarulnizam Mohd Salleh, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Farrah Nasser and Elhanan James.
