Alexander Zverev has been honoured by the Halle grass court tournament for his French Open title and his contribution to tennis in Germany on Sunday.

Zverev, 29, was honoured on centre court before Monday's tournament start where he makes a 10th attempt to win the title for a first time.

It is his first event since he won a first career grand slam title at last at last. He said the days afterwards were "intense but also wonderful because you only experience it if you win the big tournaments."

Zverev is the top seed in Halle and one of six top-10 players present. They include beaten Paris finalist Flavio Cobolli of Italy and Sunday's Stuttgart finalists, winner Ben Shelton and runner-up Taylor Fritz of the US.

Halle is a major tune-up for Wimbledon which starts on June 29 and where Zverev has never gone beyond the fourth round.
