Malaysia once gave poor families 10 acres of land, here's what happened

More than 60 years ago, Malaysia attempted something few countries had ever done.

The government cleared jungles, built entire towns from scratch, and gave more than 112,000 poor families around 10 acres of land to build a new life.

For many, it worked.

Families escaped poverty. Children became doctors, engineers, accountants and business owners.

In fact, FELDA is still regarded by many economists as one of the world’s most successful rural poverty reduction programmes.
