MANILA, Philippines — Eleven senators have so far filed resolutions honoring Filipino tennis star Alex Eala on her historic win at the Mubadala DC Open.
The proposed resolutions were presented for adoption during Tuesday's session.
Among those who filed the resolutions were Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Sens. Joel Villanueva, Bam Aquino, Christopher “Bong” Go, JV Ejercito, Mark Villar, Erwin Tulfo, Robin Padilla and Lito Lapid.
Eala defeated world No. 3 and tournament top seed Jessica Pegula in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 500 final, a victory that also made her the first Filipino to break into the Top 20 of the WTA singles rankings.
Before beating Pegula in the final, Eala ousted reigning Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen of China, defending champion Leylah Fernandez of Canada, world No. 10 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka of Japan.
