Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS) Rohtak is turning into a state-level training hub for modern denture techniques as nearly 150 dental surgeons from Haryana are being trained in “Denture in a Day” procedures.

This two-day programme aims to train dental surgeons from across the state in advanced and time-efficient denture fabrication techniques.

“The main objective of the workshop is to disseminate this expertise across the state so that patients in district and civil hospitals can benefit locally. As medical professionals, it is our responsibility to share advanced techniques with doctors for skill enhancement in the government sector and practitioners so that elderly patients in villages do not need to travel to Rohtak for treatment,” said Dr Manu Rathee, Principal of PGIDS.

She also highlighted that modern technologies such as digital scanning, digital designing, exocad software, meshmixer software and semi & fully adjustable articulators are being used in contemporary denture fabrication. These tools have significantly improved precision, fit and patient comfort.

“Digital design allows highly accurate mapping of jaw anatomy, while semi & fully adjustable articulators help record bite and chewing patterns precisely, reducing the need for repeated adjustments after denture placement. Earlier, conventional methods took several days and multiple visits. Now, with digital planning, a well-fitted denture can be delivered in 1-2 days itself, saving time, cost and discomfort,” Dr Manu added.

She pointed out that PGIDS Rohtak is currently the only institute in Haryana, where complete dentures are being prepared without any waiting list. “Patients do not have to wait for months. Treatment begins as soon as a tooth-less patient arrives and our team completes denture fabrication in the shortest period of time,” Dr Manu added.

Organising Secretary Dr Pankaj Gehlot said the first day of the workshop included lectures followed by clinical hands-on sessions. “The second day on Monday will feature discussions and a question-answer session. The aim is to ensure that every participant gains full confidence in performing the procedure independently,” he added.

“The workshop has been designed with multiple skill stations focusing on different procedures. Participants are being trained in border moulding, gothic arch tracing, digital scanning, exocad-based designing, patient evaluation, impression techniques, jaw relation recording and mounting on semi & fully adjustable articulators. Live demonstrations and direct patient-based training are being conducted to ensure practical learning,” said Dr Gehlot.
