In a major push towards achieving the aim of Drug Free Delhi by 2027, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday announced the setting up of first dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) police station.
The announcement was made by the LG during the destruction of narcotics substances valued over Rs 72 crore.
In February this year, the ANTF had got its dedicated logo, which symbolises vigilance, integrity, and the unwavering commitment of Delhi police in combating the menace of narcotics. It reflects strength, coordination and a mission driven approach towards building a drug-free society.
The ANTF operates under the Crime Branch, Delhi police, with a specialised mandate to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.
It was established to combat the growing drug menace in the city.
Over the years, it has arrested countless drug traffickers, seized narcotics worth crores of rupees, freezed rented properties of narco-offenders, and taken action under PIT-NDPS Act 1988.
Its objective is to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and improve coordination among agencies to combat the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through dedicated infrastructure and independent investigative authority.
The task force aims to make Delhi drug-free and is committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks, curbing the supply of narcotics, and spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
Its primary functions include enforcing the NDPS Act, 1985, gathering and analysing intelligence, taking action against drug traffickers, cracking down on inter-state and international drug syndicates, conducting anti-drug awareness campaigns, and coordinating with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other agencies.
