1st batch of OFWs from Riyadh arrive

THIRTY-FOUR overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) repatriated after flight disruptions in Saudi Arabia arrived in the Philippines on Monday.

Flights were disrupted after missile attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen on King Khalid International Airport.

The OFWs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Qatar Airways flight QR934 from Doha, after traveling from Al Qassim, Saudi Arabia, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said.

OWWA said its Repatriation and Assistance Division (RAD) provided the repatriated workers with airport assistance, transportation, temporary accommodations, and, for those who will return home to their province, domestic flight assistance.

"The coordination of the OWWA and DMW (Department of Migrant Workers), in partnership with the Philippine Embassy and Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Riyadh, continues, to be able to arrange the next flights and provide the necessary support to other OFWs waiting for their return home," OWWA said.

Based on OWWA’s schedule, 65 more OFWs were expected to arrive on Tuesday composed of 50 workers from Al Qassim and 15 female OFWs who would be traveling from Dammam.

The 65 OFWs included 50 people "under the care of Saudi recruitment agencies" who were accompanied by OWWA's Riyadh team, OWWA said.

The 15 others are female OFWs from Bahay Kalinga who were scheduled to fly from Dammam aboard a Gulf Air Flight and arrive at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at NAIA.
