MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-four people comprising the first batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to be repatriated after flight disruptions in Saudi Arabia arrived in the Philippines on Monday morning.
Earlier, flights were disrupted after attacks, which Houthis claimed responsibility for, on King Khalid International Airport.
"The OFWs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 aboard Qatar Airways flight QR934 from Doha, after traveling from Al Qassim, Saudi Arabia," the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said in Filipino on Facebook.
The OWWA said that based on the OFWs' needs, its Repatriation and Assistance Division provided them with "airport assistance, transportation, temporary accommodations, and," for those who will return home to their province, domestic flight assistance.
"The coordination of the OWWA and DMW, in partnership with the Philippine Embassy and Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Riyadh, continues, to be able to arrange the next flights and provide the necessary support to other OFWs waiting for their return home," OWWA said.
The OWWA added that based on a current schedule, 65 more OFWs were expected to arrive on Tuesday composed of "50 workers from Al Qassim and 15 female OFWs under the care of the Bahay Kalinga" who would travel from Dammam.
