MANILA, Philippines—Some 2,900 teachers and school leaders across Metro Manila who were promoted took their oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Makati City on Friday.
The oath-taking is part of the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) program of the Department of Education that aims to fill up teacher vacancies and address long-standing promotion backlogs.
Out of the 2,915 promoted personnel, 2,186 advanced through natural vacancies, while 729 were promoted under the ECP, which reflected a dual-track approach that enabled qualified educators to move up based on merit and readiness, without being constrained solely by vacant plantilla positions.
“Under the Marcos Administration, we are prioritizing teachers, not just in words, but through clear reforms that gives dignity, advancement and future for the profession of teaching,” Education Secretary SonnyAngara said.
One of the teachers who was promoted was Eloisa Cruz of the Eusebio High School in Pasig City. She thanked Marcos and Angara for the opportunity after being stuck at Teacher 1 for 10 years.
