TWO female immigration officers of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) face sanctions for their involvement in a physical altercation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado ordered the two officers to submit an explanation of the incident.
“Appropriate administrative action will be taken based on the results of the investigation and in accordance with existing rules and regulations,” Viado said on Friday, noting he would not tolerate any behavior unbecoming of a public officer.
A preliminary report indicated that a conversation between the two officers escalated into a shouting match and ended up in a physical altercation, which involved hair pulling and trading slaps.
The BI said the incident, which transpired in front of passengers, stemmed from a personal issue between the two officers who were on official duty. One of them, reportedly, advised the other that her partner needed to start paying child support.
Viado said he expects professionalism from all BI personnel.
“The BI remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and integrity among its personnel and to ensuring the delivery of efficient and courteous immigration services to the traveling public,” he added.
