Two friends returning after watching an IPL match were killed after a speeding car allegedly rammed their motorcycle from behind near the Bhajanpura Metro station in northeast Delhi on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the police said.

The deceased were identified as Rohit (31) and Hemant (33), both residents of Karawal Nagar in northeast Delhi.

The police said they received information about the accident from the Bhajanpura Metro station under the jurisdiction of Khajuri Khas police station.

When the police reached the spot, they found a Bullet motorcycle and a car involved in the crash, a senior police officer said.

During enquiry, it was found that the car allegedly hit the motorcycle from behind, leaving the bikers critically injured, he said. The victims were shifted to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival, the police said.

The police said a case has been registered under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Khajuri Khas police station.

“A forensic team examined the spot and collected evidence. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The car driver, Himanshu (27), has been arrested and the offending vehicle seized,” said the police officer.

Further investigation is way to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the accident, he said.
