THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday announced the return of two injured Filipino seafarers from the tanker that came under attack in the Black Sea.
The two arrived on a Turkish Airlines flight on Wednesday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
They were welcomed and assisted by DMW officer-in-charge Assistant Secretary Augusto San Diego III, and representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Manila International Airport Authority Medical Team, and the Bureau of Immigration.
The tanker, M/V Blue, which had 18 Filipino crew members, was hit by attack drones last July 8. Its stern, propeller and engine room were damaged, and a fire broke out.
All Filipino crew members were accounted for, but three of them, including the two who arrived home, had burn injuries and needed evacuation.
The two seafarers received financial assistance from the DMW and OWWA before they were turned over to their manning agency.
The DMW informed the agency to ensure continuous medical treatment and psychosocial support as the seafarers recover from their injuries.
