SANDAKAN: Marine Police here foiled an attempt to misuse subsidised petrol during Op Kontraban carried out by a team of marine police officers at Jalan Bokara, Sandakan, at about 8pm, Tuesday.
Marine Police Region 4 Commander, ACP Ahmad Ariffin said a lorry was seized and the driver detained.
Upon inspection, the lorry was found to be carrying 22 drums of petrol with each drum carrying 200 litres of petrol.
The total value of the lorry and the petrol was RM144,000.
“Upon further investigation, it was found that the driver failed to produce any certification from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) permitting him to possess the petrol neither could he show any invoice for the purchase
The driver together with the lorry and its contents were brought to the Command Centre of the Marine Police and later handed over to KPDNHEP for further investigation.
