A 22-year-old married woman, Harman Kaur, died under mysterious circumstances, with her decomposed body recovered from a locked house in Sarhali village on Friday (June 12).

The Sarhali police have named her elder sister, Mandeep Kaur, a resident of Sarhali, and Jashanpreet Singh, alias Jassi, also of the same village, as accused in connection with the woman’s death.

According to the police, Harman Kaur’s body was found in a room of a locked house belonging to a resident of Sarhali. Though married, she had been living with her mother, Beer Kaur, in Thatha village.

Harman Kaur worked with an orchestra group and often remained away from home for several days. Binderjit Singh, SHO, Sarhali police station, said that the victim’s mother told investigators that Harman was taken away by her elder sister Mandeep Kaur on May 25.

Mandeep Kaur later informed her mother about the recovery of Harman’s body from a house in the village on June 12. The SHO said that Harman allegedly lived with Jashanpreet Singh Jassi, a resident of Sarhali.

Based on the statement of the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case under Sections 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mandeep Kaur and Jashanpreet Singh.
