
A major theft was reported from a locked house in Maksudpur village under Begowal town in Kapurthala district, where thieves decamped with gold and silver jewellery and cash of lakhs of rupees. The incident occurred on May 31 when the family was away on a religious visit.
According to a complaint lodged with the police by Davinder Kaur, she had left her house locked and gone with her family to pay obeisance at a religious place in Pathankot around 9 am.
When the family returned home around 9:30 pm, they were shocked to find the locks of the house broken. On entering the premises, they discovered that the rooms had been ransacked, with clothes scattered across the bedroom and cupboards left open.
Upon checking the household belongings, the family found that a bag containing cash and ornaments was missing from an almirah.
The Begowal police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The police have also started examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to trace the culprits.
Investigating officer ASI Jasvir Singh confirmed that a suspicious individual has been spotted in footage captured by a nearby CCTV camera. Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the suspect and gather further evidence.
A case has been registered against unidentified persons and further investigation is in progress.
