
Tuaran: Twenty-four houses were destroyed in a fire in Kampung Mengkabong, here, Saturday. The 3.30pm fire was brought under control nearly two hours later with authorities confirming no injuries or fatalities.
The Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 3.34pm, prompting an immediate response from 24 firefighters, including reinforcements from Kota Kinabalu and Putatan.
Three fire engines were deployed to the scene. Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading further, but not before 23 semi-permanent houses were gutted.

Authorities, police, Civil Defence Force and Sabah Electricity assisted in the operation. Water tankers from the Water Department were also utilised to combat the flames.
The fire was fully extinguished by 10.38pm, though investigations into its cause and the total estimated losses are still ongoing.
