Kota Kinabalu: A total of 245 of the 416 dilapidated schools identified for full replacement in Sabah have been completed, while another 63 are currently under construction, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek.
She said the remaining projects are at various stages of implementation, with the Ministry continuing efforts to address dilapidated schools as quickly as possible while also looking at needs such as hostels and teachers’ quarters.
Deputy Sabah Public Works Director Mariah Marcus said Public Works Department (PWD), through its Special Projects Team 2, is overseeing 167 Education Ministry projects in Sabah involving RM5.19 billion.
The handover involved the RM33.46 million replacement of SK Buit Hill in Penampang and the RM85.05 million Sekolah Menengah Sains Sabah (Smesh) replacement project at Bukit Padang, benefiting a combined 991 pupils.
Mariah said Smesh has reached 99.07 per cent physical completion and was partially handed over to enable students who have been temporarily accommodated at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Kent Campus in Tuaran for about a decade to return to Bukit Padang while the remaining works are completed.
