Three undertrial inmates allegedly attempted to escape from the Central Jail here during the night of Thursday. An alert guard spotted them and they were caught within a couple of hours.
The inmates — Rahul Kumar, Vikram Singh and Karandeep Singh — reportedly made a rope by tearing blankets into strips. They scaled the jail walls and entered the Jail Training School premises adjoining the prison complex.
However, a vigilant guard spotted them and raised the alarm. Jail guards launched a search operation and nabbed all three inmates.
Sources said they were lodged in the jail in connection with theft cases.
Jail Superintendent Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal informed the local police about the incident. This correspondent tried to contact the Jail Superintendent for an official statement but he didn’t respond to the calls.
The Tripuri police station SHO, Sukhwinder Singh Gill, confirmed that a criminal case under various Sections of the Prisons Act and the BNS had been registered against the inmates for attempting to escape from custody.
