Kota Kinabalu: A total of 34 fines, amounting to RM5,200, have been imposed on Ramadan bazaar traders across Sabah for various violations, according to State Health Director Dr Maria Suleiman.

She said the fines were issued across several districts, including Kota Marudu (10), Sandakan (7), Semporna (4), Kuala Penyu (3), Nabawan (3), Papar (2), Keningau (2), Lahad Datu (2) and Kinabatangan (1).

The violations included missing food handler training certificates (11 cases), issues with anti-typhoid injections (5 cases), improper attire for food handlers (16 cases), and failures to provide required documents for food handler training certificate and anti-typhoid injection (2 cases), she added.

Dr Maria was speaking to reporters following a Ramadan Bazaar monitoring programme at Lintasan Deasoka, here, Friday.

She disclosed that 1,152 premises across 17 districts had been inspected, with 2,393 food handlers checked. Of those, 97.2 per cent had received the necessary anti-typhoid injections, while 97.3 per cent had completed food handler training.

She added that 682 enforcement officers are monitoring 91 Ramadan bazaars statewide, including their entire food supply chain, ensuring traders comply with the Food Act 1983, the Food Regulations 1985 and the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
