Taking a special initiative, the Ludhiana police have recovered 369 mobile phones which were lost, stolen and snatched in recent months in the industrial hub. After verifying owners of the phones, the same were handed over to them by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma.

Interestingly, out of 369 phones, over 100 belonged to migrant labourers who were targeted by snatchers.

While talking to the media at the Police Lines here on Friday, Sharma said due to the presence of industries in Ludhiana, people from different states of the country visit the city to earn livelihood through hard labour. They also contribute significantly to the progress of the country. However, for some time, complaints were being received that several mischievous elements snatch their mobiles, causing them financial loss as well as mental agony.

Keeping this in view, special instructions were issued to police station heads and officials posted in police zones to carry out a massive drive and make efforts to recover as many as stolen/lost or snatched phones. In the months’ long investigation, the Ludhiana police achieved success by recovering 369 mobiles and traced their real owners.

Rupinder Singh, ADCP, Ludhiana; Harpal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, Ludhiana; Amandeep Singh Brar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation; ADCP-1 Sameer Verma and ADCP Karanvir Singh were among those present on the occasion.

“A special campaign was launched to technically trace lost phones of the public from different areas of the city whose IMEI numbers were blocked on the CEIR portal. The initiative yielded positive results and 369 lost/snatched mobiles have been traced and recovered. Further safeguarding concerns of the public, the mobiles were handed over to their owners on Friday, CP said.

The Police Commissionerate has appealed to the public that if anyone loses his or her mobile, they must report to their nearest police station/Saanjh Kendra so that mischievous elements could not misuse the same.
