PENAMPANG - Police here have confirmed that a four-wheel drive vehicle found stuck in a drain as the same car swept away by floods yesterday.

Penampang District Police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim said results of investigations found that the incident took place near Sigah roundabout at Pekan Donggongon and photos of the car had gone viral on social media since early this morning.

He said the police received a report from the owner of the vehicle and the result of initial investigations found that the incident occured yesterday (Tuesday) when the district was hit by floods.

"The road was flooded on the day of the incident and had caused the car to be swept into the drain.

"The victim managed to save himself but his car was swept away by strong currents," he said in a statement today.

Following the report received, Mohd Haris advised the public to not upload any false facts on any social media platforms about the incident.

"This is to avoid the public's confusion and concern," he said.
