MANILA, Philippines — Six Filipino sailors whose ship came under a missile attack in the Black Sea arrived in Manila on Sunday.
The Black Sea is considered a high-risk area for merchant mariners because of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The sailors from the M/V Grace Romavictor arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on an Etihad Airways flight. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Migrant Workers and Manila International Airport Authority Medical Team assisted the seafarers upon their arrival.
Their manning agency also handled post-arrival arrangements, including medical checkups, temporary accommodation and onward travel before the seafarers returned to their families. OWWA said its Regional Welfare Office will continue to assist the seafarers as they return to their communities, including referrals to welfare, reintegration and other support services based on their needs and qualifications.
The agency said the assistance forms part of its continuing support for overseas Filipino workers and Filipino seafarers affected by crises abroad.
