Hot springs or “onsen” are popular resources of hot water in Japan, which people often use for bathing. Benefits include relieving tense muscles and a better night's sleep after the relaxing bath.

Malaysia has a few hot springs of its own, mostly from natural sources. So you don't have to buy a flight ticket all the way to Japan to visit a hot spring surrounded by lush greenery.

Remember to pack a towel and some swimwear if you want to check out these 7 budget-friendly hot springs from RM15 and below.

1. Poring Hot Spring, Sabah

Located in Ranau near Kinabalu National Park is Poring Hot Spring, one of the most popular hot springs in Malaysia. It offers a wide range of hot pools, including a Japanese-style onsen and a warm sulphur pool, which is believed to have healing properties for skin diseases and other ailments. Additionally, the surrounding tropical rainforest provides a peaceful and tranquil environment for visitors to relax and unwind. Entrance fee is RM15.

2. Ayer Hangat Village, Langkawi, Kedah

Ayer Hangat Village translates to “hot water” village. It features three hot spring pools, including a saltwater pool that is believed to have therapeutic properties. Visitors can also enjoy traditional Malay massage and spa treatments while soaking in the hot springs. Entrance fee is RM10. You can also book a private jacuzzi, but it will cost an additional fee.

3. Kampung Panchor Hot Spring, Kuching

Located 1 hour away from Kuching city, Kampung Panchor Hot Spring is a natural hot spring within the jungle. All 8 pools are under a roof, so you won't have to worry about rainy weather. It's furnished with benches to cool off, and bathroom facilities. It's pretty popular among locals and tourists. You'll have to bring your own soap and towels, though! Entrance fee is reportedly RM5.

4. Kolam Air Panas Kuala Kubu Bahru, Selangor

Kolam Air Panas Kuala Kubu Bahru is a hot spring located in Selangor, about an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur. It features two pools and visitors are recommended to go there in the morning when there are fewer people. It's not commercialized and is worth going just for the experience, even if you'll only dip your feet in like most people who visit the hot spring (the water could be too hot!). Entrance is free!

5. Sg. Lalang Hot Spring, Selangor

Sg. Lalang Hot Spring is a hidden gem located in Semenyih, Selangor. It features a natural hot spring pool that is surrounded by lush greenery and a small waterfall. Visitors can relax in the hot water while enjoying the peaceful ambience of the forest. Entrance fee is RM5.

6. Sungai Klah Hot Spring Park, Perak
