A joint team of different wings of the district police arrested seven members of the notorious interstate ‘Pardi Gulel’ gang following an armed encounter near the Mahendragarh courts on Friday.
The arrested persons, who hail from Madhya Pradesh, include two most-wanted criminals carrying cash rewards on their heads.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of the district Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak as part of a special campaign to strengthen law and order in the district.
As per the police spokesperson, the CIA Narnaul unit received a tip-off that suspicious individuals belonging to the infamous Pardi gang involved in several cases of robbery, dacoity, murder and other heinous crimes were roaming the city with the intent to execute a major crime.
Acting swiftly, a joint task force comprising personnel from CIA Narnaul, CIA Mahendragarh and Mahendragarh City Police Station was constituted.
Finding themselves cornered, the suspects ignored police warnings to surrender and scattered in different directions. During the chase, the criminals opened fire at the police personnel, following which the police team also opened fire.
Two gang members sustained bullet injuries in the crossfire. They were immediately rushed to the Government Hospital in Mahendragarh for primary care and subsequently referred to a higher medical centre.
The remaining five accused were overpowered and detained at the scene.
The arrested persons have been identified as Maniram, Abhay, Arjun, Virendra, Chand, and Vijay — all residents of different villages in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh — along with Sunil, a resident of Madhogarh in Ashoknagar district.
A background check revealed that Vijay and Chand were most wanted criminals carrying bounties of Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively, declared by the Madhya Pradesh Police.
A thorough search of the encounter site and the arrested persons led to the recovery of illegal arms and house-breaking equipment.
An automatic pistol with a magazine, three live cartridges and a country-made pistol were seized from the possession of the arrested persons.
An FIR has been registered against the accused at the Mahendragarh City Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Further legal proceedings and investigations are currently under way.
