Who doesn’t enjoy eating fried rice? Well, I think most of us do. Fried rice is a 1 dish meal and it is easy to prepare. You can prepare fried rice in a wok. The ingredients in fried rice depend on you.

You can stir cooked rice with eggs, vegetables, seafood, or even put in some meat. It is often eaten by itself or with sambal belacan.

Here is a simple and easy Malaysian Style Fried Rice. This recipe serves 4 people. Let’s start.

Ingredients

  • 200 grams of chicken fillets (cut into bite pieces)
  • 12 medium prawns (peeled and deveined)
  • 3 eggs beaten (add 2 pinches of salt in it)
  • 2 teaspoons chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 1 tablespoon sambal paste (any brand)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoon light soya sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soya sauce
  • ½ carrot chopped (½ cm cubes)
  • 4 tablespoons chopped long beans (cut ½ cm in length)
  • 3 tablespoons chopped spring onions
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons oil for frying the rice
  • 1 tablespoon oil for frying the eggs

Method

  1. Now take a wok on medium heat, and add 1 tablespoon of oil. Once the wok is hot, add 3 beaten eggs with 2 pinches of salt. Fry the eggs for 30 to 40 seconds until it’s done. Keep aside.
  2. Put 3 tablespoons of oil. Now add chopped garlic and saute it for 30 seconds. Now add sliced chicken and ginger and saute for 1 minute.
  3. Add prawns and saute for another minute. Now add carrots and long beans. At this point put in your sambal paste.
  4. Stir fry these ingredients for 2 minutes. Now add your cooked rice.
  5. Add oyster sauce, and both soya sauces and stir your rice until it is well mixed. Fry the rice for 2 minutes.
  6. Now add the fried eggs and stir fry for 1 more minute.
  7. Lastly, add chopped spring onions and sesame oil and give a final stir. Done. Your 7 Minutes Easy Malaysian Style Fried Rice is ready to be served.

Final thoughts

  1. Using jasmine long-grained rice is preferred as the rice grains will be longer.
  2. If you want your fried rice to be spicier, you may add 1 more tablespoon of sambal
  3. Always use overnight cooked rice for better results. If you have just cooked your rice, give it 1 hour to cool down before frying.
  4. While frying your rice, if you have any lumps, do break them. There is nothing more dissatisfying to see white rice lumps in your fried rice.
  5. You may add finely sliced cabbage, french beans or green peas too.
  6. Do give this recipe a try and you will be amazed at the results. Happy Cooking!
