Kota Kinabalu: Sabah police is in full readiness to ensure that the coming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) proceeds smoothly and safely.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun (pic) said a total of 8,900 police officers and personnel will be deployed across the state throughout the election period, including assistance from Bukit Aman and the Sarawak Contingent.

“Alhamdulillah, preparations by the Sabah Police Contingent for the 17th State Election are progressing well. So far, we have made thorough preparations to ensure the smooth running of the election,” he said during a press conference at Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters, here, Wednesday.

“We are deploying approximately 8,900 officers and personnel, including 1,200 support members from Bukit Aman and the Sarawak Contingent,” he added.

According to Jauteh, Sabah police had held several coordination meetings with the Election Commission (EC) and other relevant agencies such as the Public Works Department (JKR), transportation authorities, and utility providers to streamline logistics and security arrangements.

“God willing, we hope the election process will run smoothly. We have also taken into account that the period from November to early next year coincides with the Northeast Monsoon season, and we are prepared to deal with any possible disasters during the election period,” he said.

Jauteh added that overall, the security situation in Sabah remains under control despite the growing momentum of political activities.

“Overall, security is in good condition even though we can see increased political activity. As we all know, it is no longer necessary to obtain permission from the authorities to hold gatherings or meetings.

“This means that these gatherings are being organised at the discretion of the respective political parties,” he said.

He also assured that the police will continue to monitor all campaign activities to ensure peace and public order are maintained throughout the 17th Sabah State Election.
